CLP X VTC Social Inclusion Programme Kick-off Ceremony
JCCPA was invited to participate in the Social Inclusion Programme Kick-off Ceremony, jointly organised by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) and the Vocational Training Council (VTC) on May 22. As being dedicated to promoting dementia awareness, we set up a special, feature-themed booth at the kick-off ceremony to actively convey information on brain health to the public. It attracted a large number of youths and elderly participants, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The programme aims to break down age barriers and promote mutual understanding and support across generations. Through meticulously designed interactive games, JCCPA successfully integrated rich knowledge on brain health and dementia prevention messages into the activities. The participating intergenerational pairs demonstrated great synergy during the games; students assisted the elderly in completing challenges while exchanging tips on protecting brain health, putting the core spirit of “intergenerational inclusion” into practice.
JCCPA has always been committed to providing professional support for people with dementia and their caregivers, and continuously reaches out to the community to organise public education activities. In the future, we will continue to work closely with partners from various sectors to raise public awareness regarding the importance of brain health through diverse and interactive approaches.
"Healing Café" @ Kuwn Tong
Following the positive responses received from the previous sessions of the “Healing Café”, we were launching a new series of Healing Café on 29 May. This activity provides a dedicated space for caregivers of people with dementia to meet fellow caregivers on the same journey, share experiences, and establish a mutual support network.
This series continues to be hosted by our Registered Social Worker, Mr Lau On Chun. The May session was successfully held at the “Secret Garden”, a thematic café in Kwun Tong. In order to allow participants to completely disconnect from external distractions, everyone proactively placed their mobile phones in a dedicated box before the activity began, temporarily letting go of their digital shackles to focus on relaxing their bodies and minds.
The activity that day was divided into two parts:
Mindful Eating: Led by the host of “Secret Garden”, participants utilised their “five senses”—sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste—to mindfully experience a piece of South Date Walnut Cake. This ranged from observing its appearance, smelling its aroma, and touching its texture, to listening to its sound and savouring its taste. Many participants expressed that this activity broke away from their past thinking habits, guiding them to experience an unexpected sense of peace and focus.
Painting and Teatime: Afterwards, participants chose their own comfortable spots to get to know other caregivers, accompanied by painting and fine tea sets. At the same time, they enjoyed a brief moment of exclusive personal time to soothe accumulated stress.
Through future gatherings, our Centre hopes to continue providing caregivers with a comfortable and genuine platform for peer exchange, allowing them to gain substantial physical and mental support through experience-sharing and mutual encouragement.
Training Courses for Dementia Care
With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA continues to organise the training programme for caregivers.
The training session focusing on“Non-pharmacological Interventions and Effectiveness” was successfully conducted by our registered social worker Mr. Lau On Chun on May 16. He shared with around 280 family members how to care for people with dementia using non-pharmacological methods. This included the sources of behavioral and emotional symptoms in people with dementia, person-centred care approaches, different training methods, and healthy eating habits.
JCCPA regularly organises caregiving skills courses for family caregivers and provides effective solutions and support tailored to their needs and challenges, aiming to alleviate their stress and foster mutual understanding.

"Handling Distressed Behaviour of Dementia" Training Course
A training session aiming to enhance the coping capabilities of frontline medical and care personnel towards the distressed behaviour of people with dementia was successfully held on May 27 for the colleagues of Shatin Hospital.
The training session was conducted by Dr. Chui Chi Man, Deputy General Manager of the JCCPA. He explained the causes of distressed behavior in people with dementia to 21 frontline staff members, and shared the practical communication skills and handling methods. Through this training, frontline staff can more accurately master how to resolve daily caregiving challenges with empathy and professional skills, thereby providing enhanced support for people with dementia.
