Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign

In 2022, Kowloon Motor Bus (1933) Co., Ltd. (KMB) demonstrated their commitment to supporting people with dementia by installing “Angel Box” Bluetooth devices at five major bus stops. These devices are specifically designed to aid people with dementia, who may become lost and wear an ibeacon. When a person with dementia passes through the “Angel Box” Bluetooth device, the device sends a signal to the server, which then relays an approximate location to the caregiver’s smartphone. Caregivers may be able to locate the people with dementia in the App and bring them home safely as soon as possible.

This year, we are thrilled to announce our continued partnership with KMB, as they have installed the “Angel Box” Bluetooth device at 50 bus stops across Hong Kong. This expansion of the network enlarged and strengthened our ability to locate individuals with dementia who may wander and become lost. With the support from KMB, we are able to strengthen our efforts in building a dementia friendly community in Hong Kong.

In 2021, we were thankful to have the support from HKT Limited to install “Dementia’s Secret Angel” APP in their retail stores, which helped to increase the detection points of ibeacon. This year, we are once again very grateful to have HKT strengthen their supporting network again, by installing the App in their first Smart Kiosk in Causeway Bay and Central.

Training Courses for Dementia Care

With the support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA has launched a new programme “Training Courses for Dementia Care”.

The two intensive training courses were successfully held on 15 & 22 April. Our social worker, Ms. Ally Lam has shared her extensive knowledge and expertise on dementia care with over 100 caregivers. During the training sessions, Ally covered a range of topics including communication skills, effective caregiving tactics on taking care people with dementia in different stages and care plan etc. She also addressed enquires from caregivers with practical suggestions during the talk.

JCCPA offers training courses from time to time for family caregivers, learning the skills and tactics of how to take care for people with dementia, and the effective solutions and support when they encounter difficulties. This will relieve pressure of family members and help them go on the care journey with empathy.
