Elderly Activity - Japanese Pastel Nagomi Art (PNA) workshops

A few Japanese Pastel Nagomi Art (PNA) workshops were organized for our elderly members in May. PNA can be done by anyone at all age without any experience in art. People may chose their favorite colors, symbols and patterns to create unique and special artwork by using their fingers and brain, relaxing emotions and relieving stress at the same time.

Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme

Supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trusts, Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme (PDSP) organized the second online training on 3 May for general practitioners who are now practicing in different districts across Hong Kong. In this training, we continue to investigate how to design supportive service for people with dementia and the family caregivers in Hong Kong.

We were much honored to have invited Prof Timothy Kwok, Director of JCCPA and Professor, Department of Medicine & Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK to deliver the topic on Primary Care of Dementia and Medication. Prof Adrian Wong, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine & Therapeutics, CUHK shared the intervention of a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Kenny Chui, Chief Training Consultant and Dementia Specialist of JCCPA promoted the voice of people with dementia. The speakers joined hands to promote PDSP. Please feel free to contact us for more details (Tel: 2946 8185).

PDSP aims to provide early screening, early diagnosis and early intervention in dementia. If anyone observed that the elderly in the family demonstrated a significant decline in memory and cognitive impairment, but not sure whether such changes were due to normal ageing or dementia, please feel free to contact our programme staff to arrange a detailed cognitive assessment. PDSP provides supportive service to people who have diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia of early stage within one year, as well as their family caregivers. Because of the latest development of COVID-19, the elderly and the caregivers may decide to receive supportive service via telephone, online video conference or e-learning platform on a free-of-charge basis.

PDSP provides free educational talk and the cognitive test for different NGOs, organizations and for those who aged 50 or above.

An e-learning platform is now opened for caregivers who are now taking care of people with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and early stages of dementia, to address their needs in dementia knowledge, caring tips, emotional support and resources. PDSP also provides supports to the family caregivers on developing their caring plans. Case manager will provide supportive service via telephone or online communications.

Please feel free to contact us for more details (Tel: 2946 8185).

Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign

With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, we are partnering with St James’ Settlement and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to organize the “Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign (CCD)” from September 2019 to August 2022.

In order to enhance the awareness of supporting people with dementia in our community, we are conducting a series of public educational talks. Our social worker, Ms. Ally Lam, conducted two sessions of educational for JCCPA staff to promote their understanding on people with dementia through interactive dementia experiences and role play on 7 May and 14 May. By enhancing their empathy, staff members are more able to respond to the needs of elderly.

Two sessions of online talk were conducted on 18 and 30 May for the caregivers of people with early dementia. We shared the tips of using schedule and free internet resources to promote quality of life for people with dementia
