Seminar on "Reflections to the Past and New Page to the Future in Dementia Care" cum Closing Ceremony of Jockey Club Best Practice in Dementia Care Programme

With the generous support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trusts, JCCPA organizes the “Jockey Club Best Practice in Dementia Care Programme” from 2016 to 2019. Through this programme, over a hundred of professional practitioners and over a thousand of frontline workers in the health care as well as social service settings were trained up, in order to provide person centred care in dementia services.

After three years’ effort, the programme were successfully completed. The closing ceremony was held on 31 May at Shaw Auditorium, Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, Prince of Wales Hospital.

In addition, this programme won the Best Dementia Care Programme Finalist Award in 7th Eldercare Innovation Awards 2019 in Singapore. We would like to thank our partners for affirming our work, and hope that together we will continue to work closely to create a better future for people with dementia and their caregivers.

The Tail Before" Film Public Screening cum "Care in Late Stage Dementia" Sharing Session (the 9th session)

JCCPA and Wing Wah Charity Foundation jointly organise a number of film screenings of “The Tail Before” cum “Care in Late Stage Dementia” Sharing Sessions from July 2018 to June 2020. Against the backdrop involving different stakeholders in the sharing sessions, both caregivers and professionals in the fields can share their views, concerns and enquiries on the topic of Advance Care Planning through discussion. We deeply appreciate the generous support from Wing Wah Charity Foundation.

The ninth screening session was successfully held on 25 May at Sik Sik Yuen Ho Wing Neighbourhood Centre for Senior Citizens. Our Training Consultant Mr Andrew Lau discussed the topic of advance care plan with 43 caregivers and public participants.

Caregiver Support Group

The fifth session of Caregiver Support Group was conducted on 18 May 2019. Our Service Manager Ms Mariam Lee shared with the participants on “Prevention of pressure sores” and “Diet and nutrition”.

Dementia Community Support Scheme

In collaboration with Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, JCCPA is providing training courses for the “Dementia Community Support Scheme”. The training aims to facilitate professional and frontline staff to be familiar with the operation of the Scheme and enhance their capacity, expertise and skills in providing support service to people with dementia. The first cohort started since March and there were 18 lectures conducted in this month.

“Dementia Community Support Scheme” is launched by The Food and Health Bureau in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and the Hospital Authority (HA). This scheme provides dementia community support services to elderly persons with mild or moderate dementia and their caregivers in the community through the participation of 41 District Elderly Community Centres (DECC). 2 May: Training Consultant Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Sun Chui Lutheran Centre for the Elderly to share “Fall Crisis and Management” with 31 caregivers.

7 May: Registered Occupational Therapist Mr David Lau was invited by Pentecostal Church of Hong Kong Fung Tak Care and Health Elderly Centre to share “Fall prevention, support in bathing and oral hygiene” with caregivers.

8 May: Senior Training Consultant Mr. Kenny Chui was invited by The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited to share “Maintaining a healthy brain” with 60 members of the public.

9 May: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Pentecostal Church of Hong Kong Fung Tak Care and Health Elderly Centre to share “Care plan for people with dementia” and “Financial planning and arrangement” with caregivers.

21、23 May: Mr. Kenny Chui was invited by Christian Family Service Center and Pine care group to share “Seating posture and relevant care” with 70 professionals and frontier staff in total respectively.

27 May: Service Manager Ms Mariam Lee was invited by School of Continuing and Professional Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to share “Understanding Dementia” with 19 professionals

28 May: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Police of Tseung Kwan O District / Kowloon East to share “What is Dementia?” with 50 members of the public.
