Singer-Songwriter Jay Fung Visited JCCPA

Recently, JCCPA welcomed a very special guest—singer-songwriter Jay Fung!

Jay spent a warm afternoon filled with music and happiness alongside his fan volunteers and our elder members. During the event, Jay performed the classic hit “Stand by Me.” His heartwarming voice captivated the audience, drawing heartfelt applause. Beyond singing, Jay engaged in exercises and handicraft activities with our members, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone present.

We sincerely thank Jay and all the volunteers for their loving companionship. Their presence brought vibrant energy and warmth to the centre, creating cherished, joyful memories for our members.

We warmly welcome more groups to participate in visit and collaboration activities. We look forward to working together with everyone in the community to create more joyful moments for our elderly!

"Healing Café" @ Kowloon City: Pause and Reflect

The August “Healing Café” event was hosted at “Stone Houses Family Garden”—a cosy restaurant located in Kowloon City. Our social worker Andrew kicked off the session with interactive icebreaker games.

Following self-introductions, participants paired up for two rounds of Rock-Paper-Scissors:

Round 1 (Fast-Paced): Partners played as many hands as possible in 10 seconds. Results varied from seven wins to two wins, with everyone thoroughly enjoying the fast pace.

Round 2 (Pause and Choose): One person showed their hand first, while the other was asked to “pause” for three seconds before choosing their move. While some caregivers initially assumed the second player would automatically choose to win, the outcomes were surprising—some chose to win, others intentionally chose to lose, and some chose a draw. Regardless of the outcome, everyone enjoyed the process.

Through this simple game, caregivers gained a profound insight: when facing behavioural challenges or caregiving hurdles with family members, taking a moment to “pause” before responding can help identify more suitable solutions.

The open sharing session was equally lively. One participant showcased her handmade crafts and enthusiastically offered to teach others, reminding everyone to make time for a refreshing “pause” amidst their busy lives.

Training Courses for Dementia Care

With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA continues to organise the training programme for caregivers.

On 15 August, the online Zoom training “Physical Changes Across Stages in Various Types of Dementia, Advance Directives, and End-of-Life Care Preparation” was successfully conducted by JCCPA board member and Geriatric Specialist Dr. Jenny Lee. Dr. Lee shared insights with around 240 family caregivers on common medications, reasons for hospital admissions in advanced dementia stages, and medical intervention principles.

JCCPA regularly organises caregiving skills courses for family caregivers and provides effective solutions and support tailored to their needs and challenges, aiming to alleviate their stress and foster mutual understanding.

For information on upcoming courses, please follow our social media platforms for the latest updates.
