Hong Kong Book Fair 2026 – [Travel·Reading Life Academy]
With the Hong Kong Book Fair buzzing with activity this year, we were very delighted to be invited by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to conduct a sharing session. Mr Andrew Lau, registered social worker, delivered a special talk at the ‘Journey of Life through Reading’ booth, where he shared Professor Timothy Kwok’s book “Growing Old Gracefully” with the audience and explored the heart-warming and loving topic of ‘autonomy in later life’.
During the talk, Andrew quoted Professor Kwok’s perspective from the book: when life draws to a close, choosing to refrain from futile medical treatment is not a surrender of life, but rather an act of kindness and love towards one’s family.
By clearly articulating one’s wishes, we can ease the dilemma faced by family members who might otherwise have to make decisions on our behalf at critical moments, protecting them from feelings of guilt and blame. At the same time, safeguarding the quality of life for our loved ones helps to reduce their physical and psychological burdens.
‘Growing Old Gracefully’ means retaining the power of choice for ourselves, whilst ensuring peace of mind for those we love most ❤️
Thank you for the invitation from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, and thank you to every reader who attended to show their support and attention that day! We look forward to continuing to promote a dignified and self-determined life in old age together in the future.
"Handling Distressed Behaviour of Dementia" Training Course
With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA continues to organise the training programme for caregivers.
The online zoom training “Dementia Care One-day Intensive Course” was successfully conducted by our registered social worker Ms. Ally Lam on 4 July, sharing the basic knowledge of dementia with around 200 caregivers, including understanding dementia, communication skills, different stages of care and care planning.
Our centre regularly organises caregiving skills courses for family caregivers and provides effective solutions and support tailored to their needs and challenges, aiming to alleviate their stress and foster mutual understanding.
For information on upcoming courses, please follow our social media platforms for the latest updates.
