We were honoured to invite Ms Kate Swaffer, the international consultant for this project; Professor Timothy Kwok, Director of JCCPA and S.H. Ho Professor of Geriatric Medicine of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics of CUHK; Dr Kenny Chui, Deputy General Manager of JCCPA; Dr Lorinda Kwan-Chen, Speech and Language Therapist and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Special Education and Guidance of the Education University of Hong Kong; Dr Lisa Au, Associate Professor of Practice in Neurology (by courtesy), Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK, discussed how to provide practical support to people with young-onset dementia through various professional treatments and collaborations, and how to help caregivers cope with the challenges of caring.<\/p><p>More than 100 professionals attended this seminar and Dr Lui Wing Cheong, a psychiatric specialist from the project, travelled specially from the UK to attend. This seminar provided a rare opportunity for professionals to discuss the issues of young-onset dementia from different perspectives.<\/p><p>We would like to thank the professionals from different organisations for attending the seminar. Our goal is to enhance awareness of dementia among professionals and the general public, and to provide support to individuals with dementia and their caregivers in the community. We are delighted to announce our partnership with the AS Watson Group in the launch of the &#8220;Wanderer Watchers&#8221; initiative, which aims to foster a dementia-friendly community through collaborative efforts.<\/p><p>We provide training courses for Watsons Group employees through the \u2018Online Learning Platform for Dementia: EDU\u2019. The courses are designed to meet the specific requirements of the retail industry, providing employees with a deeper understanding of dementia and communication skills to interact with people with dementia in their daily work thereby to enhance the service quality and efficiency. These training courses represent a pioneering initiative in the retail sector in Hong Kong.<\/p><p>Furthermore, the &#8220;Dementia&#8217;s Secret Angel&#8221; App has been installed on over 1,200 mobile devices across all AS Watson Group branches, including over 500 Hong Kong PARKnSHOP Supermarkets, Watsons, Fortress, and Watson&#8217;s Wine stores. The objective of this initiative is to expand the network for locating missing elderly.<\/p><p>We hope to collaborate with AS Watsons Group through this \u2018Wanderer Watchers\u2019 to provide a stronger support network for the people with dementia.
