We were honoured to invite solicitor Ms Olivia Leung, to share knowledge on Will, Enduring Power of Attorney and advance directives. Over 90 caregivers attended the talk. Ms Leung also addressed various queries and concerns of caregivers with practical suggestions during the talk, reminding them to plan their assets for their family members as early as possible to avoid complicated procedures in the future.<\/p><p>JCCPA offers training courses from time to time for family caregivers, learning the skills and tactics of how to take care for people with dementia, and the effective solutions and support when they encounter difficulties. It was our honour to be invited to showcase our newly launched Dementia E-learning Platform \u201cEDU\u201d and the &#8220;Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign&#8221; in the exhibition.<\/p><p>EDU platform, is the first comprehensive dementia e-learning platform in Hong Kong. It aims to provide in-depth explanations and case studies on dementia knowledge and caregiving skills to family caregivers, professional workers, corporates and people who want to know more about dementia. The courses also include exercises and quizzes to enhance learning motivation, with notes to review key points.<\/p><p>The &#8220;Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign&#8221; is a project that combines the public involvement and technology to help find lost people with dementia. The campaign distributes free Bluetooth &#8216;iBeacon&#8217; devices to people with dementia, which enable their families to locate them if they become lost. Anyone who downloads the &#8220;Dementia&#8217;s Secret Angel&#8221; app and turns on the Bluetooth device can play the role of &#8220;Dementia Angel&#8221; to help out the detection once receiving a lost person report. Caregivers are supported to know the approximate location of the person with dementia so that they can respond as quickly as possible and identify those who have lost their way.<\/p><p>The four-day exhibition ended successfully. Many caregivers and professionals registered on the EDU platform and expressed that the platform would help them to learn more about dementia and care skills. The program aims to strengthen students\u2019 knowledge and practical skills so that a higher service quality in dementia care can be attained. There were around 30 students enrolled in each program. Most of them are professionals like social workers, nurses, podiatrists, and occupation therapists from the elderly service. The program not only includes lecture-based pedagogy but also practical learning like agency visits, clinical practice, and therapeutic interventions, such as music therapy, aroma therapy, horticultural therapy, expressive art and animal-assisted activities.
