Then, the participants got a chance to taste and touch the seasonal fruits which provided much sensory stimulation to the participants. Last but not least, they also solved lantern riddles with our staff.<\/p><p>How could the Mid-Autumn Festival be without mooncakes? The theme this year was \u2018snowy mooncakes DIY\u2019. The elder members had to communicate and cooperate during the DIY workshop while much social interactions were made. Some of them were responsible for kneading the dough and others were responsible for assembling the dough and the fillings. All the mooncakes were finished by the participants. The truck traveled to 24 locations. The general public actively participated in various activities such as games and the roadshow which enhanced their understanding on dementia. The caregivers also expressed that it was convenient to pick up the guarding-tooth device which near their home and work place.<\/p><p>The event has come to fruitful and successful end. We appreciated the participation of over 60 professional workers from different institutions.<\/p><p>We were honoured to have invited Prof. Timothy Kwok, director of JCCPA and professor of Department of Medicine &amp; Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK to deliver the topic on the importance of early detection of dementia and how to look for dementia in primary care. Prof. Adrian Wong, research assistant professor of Department of Medicine &amp; Therapeutics, CUHK shared the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. The elders can learn dementia knowledge from the training and learn to establish healthy lifestyles in the future.<\/p><p>Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme provides free educational talk and the cognitive screening for different NGOs, organizations and for those who aged 50 or above in order to screen and to be diagnosed by our collaborated general practitioners and to intervene early in dementia.<\/p><p>If anyone observed that the elderly in the family demonstrated a significant decline in memory and cognitive impairment, you are welcome to contact our programme staff Mr. Chan at 2946 8179 or Ms. Yip at 2946 8182 to arrange a cognitive assessment via telephone for the people in need.<\/p><p>PDSP provides free training sessions for people aged 50 or above who have diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early dementia within one year, as well as 6 &#8211; 9 months supporting services to those family caregivers too. In view of the latest development of the novel coronavirus infection, elderly and the caregivers can receive supportive service via telephone, Zoom meeting or self-learning from our e-platform as well. The programme aims to strengthen students\u2019 knowledge and practical skills so that a higher service quality in dementia care can be attained. There were around 30 students enrolled for each programme. Most of them are professionals like social workers, nurses, podiatrists, occupation therapists from elderly service. The progrramme not only includes the lecture-based pedagogy but also practical learning like agency visit, clinical practice and therapeutic interventions, such as music therapy, aroma therapy, horticultural therapy, expressive art and animal assisted activities.
