UNO playing group was organised in August, by following the rules of playing one card matching the discard in colour and number, it trains the arithmetic capability of our elder members. Other rules such as the \u201cReserve\u201d card switches the direction of the order of play and shouting \u201cUNO\u201d after laying down the next-to-last card can train their concentration and memory. JCCPA and St. James\u2019 Settlement launched a mobile promotion truck across the territory from the end of August to the end of September, to encourage citizens to download the &#8220;Dementia&#8217;s Secret Angel&#8221; APP. We are eager to create a tracing network to prevent people with dementia from getting lost. In addition, the truck also serves as a collection point for the iBeacon electronic device.<\/p><p>The truck visited Mong Kok, Sheung Shui and Kwun Tong from August 28 to 31. General public are invited to play games on the truck with the aim to deepen their understanding in dementia. At the same time, the enrollment of iBeacon received a positive response and quotas filled in no time. We assisted caregivers in downloading the &#8220;Dementia&#8217;s Secret Angel&#8221; APP and operating with the iBeacon device. They also visited various HKHS estates, including Prosperous Garden, Kwun Lung Lau and Yue Kwong Chuen and to carry out an on-site cognitive test by using the EC Screen App. EC Screen App aims to examine dementia for elders preliminarily in 5 to 10 minutes. If the examination result of elders is \u201cFollow-up\u201d, staff will contact elders for detailed assessments.<\/p><p>In the meantime, programme staff visited Bo Shek Mansion, Prosperous Garden and Kwun Lung Lau to conduct detailed assessment for the elders in need in order to refer them to general practitioners for cognitive diagnosis with subsidy.<\/p><p>Besides, programme staff conducted group training sessions for the diagnosed elderly in HKHS estates, including Cho Yiu Chuen and Broadview Garden in Kwai Tsing, Bo Shek Mansion in Tsuen Wan and Prosperous Garden in Yau Ma Tei. The elders could learn dementia knowledge from the training and establish healthy lifestyles in the future.<\/p><p>Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme provides free educational talk and the cognitive screening for different NGOs, organizations and for those who aged 50 or above in order to screen and to be diagnosed by our collaborated general practitioners and to intervene early in dementia.<\/p><p>If anyone observed that the elderly in the family demonstrated a significant decline in memory and cognitive impairment, you are welcome to contact our programme staff Mr. Chan at 2946 8179 or Ms. Yip at 2946 8187 to arrange a cognitive assessment via telephone for the people in need. PDSP provides free training sessions for people aged 50 or above who have diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and early dementia within one year, as well as 6 to 9 months supporting services to those family caregivers too. Our physiotherapist Mr. Ben Chan shared with more than 200 family caregivers on the topics of exercise, lifting skills and pain management for people with dementia. During the course, Ben also responded to many cases and challenges encountered by caregivers, hoping to help relieve their pressure.<\/p><p>The next &#8220;1+2&#8221; Family Caregivers Training Course will be held on 18 September (Saturday).
