* Cluster design to reduce floor scale to a more familiar size, similar to a home.

* Use of residential style furniture.

* Dining tables of four to foster social interaction.

* Residents are encouraged to bring their personal items to their bedrooms to make the room familiar to them.

Walking path

* Use of colour contrast to floor surfaces to create a well-defined and barrier-free wandering circular route.

* Dining room, kitchen and windows with a view act as interesting points along the route.

Bed sensing system

* Provided for all the beds to detect the prolonged leaving of bed during the night.

* Visual and audible indication at the panel of an "out-of-bed" condition. This condition will be initiated if the elderly gets down from the bed in the corresponding rooms.

Lighting

* Even light distribution that does not create shadows.

* Residential style light fittings are used.

* Focus task lighting to draw client's attention, eg. spotlight over the toilet seat.
